Student Life & Learning Culture
Student culture plays a central role in learning at Novoschool. Our environment is intentionally designed to support focus, responsibility, and engagement, with extended days, shared meals, flexible learning spaces, and a purposefully structured school community. Students are trusted with responsibility and expected to take an active role in their learning.

A typical day includes learning across STEM, Humanities, Technology, Creative Industries, PDHPE and Art, alongside a dedicated daily inquiry period where students pursue an area of personal interest through sustained investigation and clear goals. Learning regularly extends beyond the classroom, with students learning in real-world contexts across the city of Newcastle, from cultural institutions and research environments to universities and community organisations.

Physical activity is also part of weekly learning. Students participate in regular PE along with professionally led sport and movement programs. Opportunities range from team sports to individual pursuits such as sailing, rock climbing, pilates, karate, fencing, basketball and others.

Shared meals are an important part of the school day. Beyond building connection, lunch is a practical learning experience where students have opportunities to contribute to preparation and are expected to clear up after themselves and their peers, developing shared responsibility and skills in nutrition, collaboration, and independence.

Novoschool is a community for curious, motivated learners who want to think deeply, challenge themselves academically, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Students who thrive here value responsibility, inquiry, and learning with purpose. If you’d like to understand more about the structure of the day, please reach out.
